Wantage Town 4 (Malton 47, Eatwell 84, Edney pen 86, Jones 89)

Witney United 3 (McKeon 49, Mays 51, Tustain pen 65)

Gavin Jones headed a late winner as Wantage kept up their Premier Division 1 title hopes in a seven-goal thriller on Saturday.

The result moves third-placed Wantage within four points of leaders Ardley United, but increased Witney’s relegation fears.

With minutes left, it looked as if Witney would hang on for a valuable win, but Tom Eatwell levelled and Jones netted the winner.

After a goalless first half, in which Witney came closest to scoring through a Sam Belcher effort that hit a post, Wantage took the lead.

Tom Malton rounded three def-enders before driving an unstoppable shot past Tim Griffiths in the Witney goal.

But two goals in three minutes saw Witney take the lead. First, ex-Wantage striker Sean McKeon fired past keeper Gareth Tucker, before Dean Mays added a third.

Wantage levelled with a penalty from Graham Edney after Jones was brought down. Joe Tustain equalised for Witney with a spot-kick of their own after Adam Bruce was fouled by Tucker.

But Witney’s hopes of a win were dashed in the last five minutes when Eatwell equalised with a looping shot and Jones headed the winner.

Ardley United 2 (Brooks 11, 40)

Ryan Brooks hit a brace as Ardley saw off their ten-man opponents.

Kevin Brock’s side, who lead second-placed Slimbridge by two points went ahead when a cross from Andrew Stidder found Brooks who controlled the ball before sliding the ball under keeper Stuart Harris.

Ardley should have made it 2-0 from the penalty spot after Alex Lewis was sent off for handling an Ardley corner, but Murray Nicholls fired wide.

Ardley got a second when Stuart Bridges fed Brooks who rifled a shot past Harris.

After the break, Nicholls struck the bar as the leaders eased to victory.

Abingdon Town 2 (Denton 73, Gabbidon 74)

Slimbridge 3 (Cole pen 15, Roberts 40, Martin 55)

A late fightback was in vain as Abingdon went down to a narrow defeat.

Slimbridge took the lead through a Tom Cole penalty, before Marvyn Roberts doubled their lead.

Abingdon looked doomed when Jamie Martin lobbed Hutton, but close-range efforts by Rhys Denton and Lewis Gabbidon set up a grandstand finish. However, they were unable to level.

Oxford City Nom 2 (Ferreira 19, 73)

Binfield 2 (Williams 50, Davies 85)

Oxford City Nomads had to be satisfied with a draw despite twice leading.

Jermaine Ferreira gave Nomads the lead, only for Luke Williams to level after the break.

Ferreira restored the hosts’ lead into the top corner, but Ian Davies secured a point for the high-fliers.
