ALCHESTER head coach Chris Kimber hailed winning the BB&O Premier Division title as a “fantastic” achievement.

Kimber’s men took the crown after beating Drifters 18-13 on Saturday.

He said: “It was a little nervy, but we had control for most of the game.

“Drifters were a good side. If they had had the same team at the beginning of the season, they may been challenging for promotion. “It hardened us up for Saturday when we face Old Richians in the Senior Vase.

“It is fantastic really. The lads have grown in stature and strength from last year.

“They have become a team rather than a group of individuals.

“It looks good for us next year with our squad.”

  • WITNEY are hosting an ex-players day at Hailey Road on Saturday, which will feature a veterans match against Hungerford.

The match kicks off at 2pm, ahead of Witney’s first team match against Oakmeadians.

Organiser Dave Gardner said: “I am hoping to encourage as many ex-players along as possible.

“A few of us are even putting on the boots again for a last run out in a Witney shirt.

“I work with another Witney ex-player, Duncan Footner, who has recently got through some cancer treatment and we thought if we didn’t do it now, we never would.”
