Nine-time champion Karl Bushell met his match as he was beaten by Jingyu Sun in the Oxford League Division 1 Championship.

Chinese player Sun, the Oxford University captain, prevailed 8-11, 11-6, 14-12, 11-8 to avenge last season’s final defeat and win his first divisional title.

The third game proved crucial. Bushell, 56, dominated the early stages, leading 5-1, 9-6 and 10-9.

But Sun, with some venomous serves, was relentless and took it 14-12.

In the semis, Bushell defeated Pavel Jaskolski, while and Sun saw off Andrew Flint.

Dave Ralls gave an inspired display to capture the Division 2 title with a straights-game win over Peter Hargreaves in the final.

Hargreaves must have been exhausted after coming from two games down to win 12-10 in the fifth against Eamonn Deeley in his semi-final.

Marco Zhang was in blistering form as he defeated Malcolm Burr for the Division 3 title.

The Division 4 final between Jonah Stott and Pichitpong Juiwong was a cautious affair, which Stott took in straight sets.
