Lee Steele scored twice as Oxford City boosted their Zamaretto Southern League Premier Division survival hopes with a 3-1 home victory over Tiverton Town.

On 30 minutes, Ryan Turner outpaced City’s Richard Peirson to drive home.

Steele levelled just before the break with a soft left-foot shot.

Peirson headed home a corner to make it 2-1 on the hour mark and City wrapped up the points with Steele’s powerful finish after 87 minutes.

Banbury United were left frustrated by a 1-0 defeat at Hednesford Town.

Carl Patterson put Hednesford ahead on 20 minutes, but the second half was all Banbury.

Robbie Maddox was denied a penalty, Adam Learoyd struck both posts with the same shot and had an effort cleared off the line – as did Henry Rose.

North Leigh ended Division 1 South & West high-fliers Sholing’s 100 per cent home record with a 2-1 victory.

Sholing had won 15 out of 15 home games before last night, but a late strike from debutant sub Nick Thorn sealed it for North Leigh.

Matty Taylor put the visitors ahead on 44 minutes, but Sholing defender Lee Bright fired home from a corner midway through the second half.

Thorn, a signing from Old Woodstock Town, had the final say on 89 minutes.
