Town took the honours as they bossed their deadly rivals in the annual Town v Gown clash at the University Sports Centre, Iffley Road.

The encounter was run along the lines of the Varsity Match system made up of eight singles and two doubles matches.

Town’s first team strolled to an 8-2 victory, Jason Tustain and Mark Scott leading the way with two singles wins apiece.

The scoreline would have been more emphatic had Jingyu Sun not won both his singles for the University.

The men’s 2nd match was a much tighter affair with Town edging the tussle 6-4.

But it was close with Chris Smith beating Paul Er-dunast 11-9 off the last ball of the deciding game in the final doubles match.

Gown got their own back in the ladies match, as they stormed to a 7-3 victory.

Only Tatiana Bachkirova managed a singles victory for Town, a 11-9, 11-7, 11-9 win against Jessie Cao.
