Oxford trainer Nick Colton, champion in 2004-5, is arguably the most enterprising of handlers at the Sandy Lane track, with his latest venture in Ireland.

He has established new kennels near Tipperary within easy reach of both Limerick and Thurles, and while he is not considering quitting his interests here, he is fond of the odd trip to the Emerald Isle.

The new licensed premises will enable him to house his runners when he enters competitions, but also have room to accommodate any British-trained hounds racing there.

Colton has a dual attachment to both Oxford and Swindon which he took up after returning to Oxford after a brief spell at other tracks.

Meanwhile, he is aiming two of his top dogs, Jolly Poacher and Rebel Ace, at the Arc at Swindon.

THE final of the Oxfordshire Stakes pulled in the big punters and it was no problem for the big speculators to place several £1,000 wagers.

It proves that good open racing pulls in the punters and there are more planned for the future.

CLERK of the Course Mick Partlett hopes to return next month after having surgery before Christmas.
