Stockport County have managed only six wins all season and are four points adrift of 22nd place.

But in reality, with Burton having so many games in hand, they are seven points away from safety.

It’s been a torrid season, and they have mustered just one victory, 2-1 against neighbouring Bury, in the last 13 games.

If they had drawn a few in that time, their position might not be so bad, but ten of those 13 games have ended in defeat.

George Donnelly, who scored the winner in their shock 1-0 success at the Kassam Stadium in September, hit eight goals before moving to ambitious Conference side Fleetwood Town.

He remains their top scorer.

Matt Paterson, 21, who came through the ranks at Southampton, has been joined up front by friend Ryan Doble, who is banned.

County also have striker Anthony Elding, on loan from Rochdale.

A well-known player at the back is Mansour Assoumani, the 6ft 2in French defender, who played for Montpellier in the French first division, and who had a brief spell with Leeds United.
