Two successive defeats show Oxford Harlequins need to strengthen their squad for next season.

That is the view of director of rugby John Brodley, whose side visit Weston-super-Mare in National 3 South West tomorrow.

Quins have been well beaten by Old Patesians (36-0) and Bournemouth (41-10) in their last two matches.

Brodley said: “These last two matches have shown we are a little bit underpowered this season, which we will be looking to put right for next year.

“When we have been without key players such as Martin Nutt and Andy Boyle, we have sometimes struggled.

“Being back to full strength now, we are looking forward to the rest of the season.”

Captain and prop Simon Chadbone is back from illness, while Nutt returns on the wing.

Lock Alan Purchase (ankle) should be fit to partner the returning Boyle, but flanker Tim Knapp is away.

Huw Jones returns on the wing. Joey Todd, Alex Ashby and Paul DeLange drop out.

Chinnor, who host Cleve, add flankers Adam Hastings and Nick Harrison, plus centre Huw Morgan, to the squad that beat Henley in the Oxfordshire Cup.

Head coach Jason Bowers said: “In the second half against Henley, we went back to our patterns and were a little bit more clinical.”

He added: “We dropped a place without playing last week.

“We will look to pick up some momentum aginst Cleve and Coney Hill before the local derby against Quins.”

Centre Danny Wells returns to partner Neil Baggett as Henley Hawks visit Worthing in National 2 South.

Ant Brennan continues to deputise for injured skipper Andy Dalgleish at hooker.

Scrum half Gareth Campbell replaces Will Bibby for Witney’s trip to South West 1 East leaders Maidenhead.

Wallingford welcome back scrum half Derek Viljoen at home to Swanage & Wareham.

Player-coach Gerry Hill replaces injured lock Mike Turner. Flanker Mike Chapman, fly half Oli Henderson and centres Johnny Collett and Angus Brettell are also back.

Flanker Will Oldham returns as Banbury host Old Laurentians in Midlands 1 West.

Oxford can go a long way to securing their Southern Counties North status by beating visitors Chipping Norton.
