Oxford City manager Mike Ford has hailed the capture of defender Marvin Martin from Zamaretto Southern League Premier Division relegation rivals Banbury United.

Martin, 19, a former Oxford United trainee, is set to make his debut in Saturday's home game against Stourbridge.

With James Organ out for several weeks with a hamstring injury, City’s former Reading youth striker Kynan Isaac filled in during the 2-1 win against Chippenham last Saturday.

“Kynan did very well,” said Ford.

“But Marvin has played at wing-back for one and a half seasons at Banbury and is very experienced.

“He lives around the corner and hadn’t been in their side, so it was too good an opportunity to miss.

“Although he is only 19, he has bags of talent and we want him to get better.

“With James being injured, we have been without a left-footed player.

“It was purely a footballing decision because he’s probbaly on the same money here as he was at Banbury.”

City give late fitness tests to Dave Savage (ankle), Lee Steele (hamstring) and Craig McIllwain (hamstring), thou-gh Andy Ballard is available again.

Banbury United boss Billy Jeffrey was sorry to lose Martin.

“It’s a shame really, but he’s an Oxford lad and wanted someone local to play for.”

Meanwhile, Jeffrey says Nathan Haisley’s return can boosts their battle against relegation, starting with the visit of Weymouth.

Haisley, 25, left Spencer Stadium last October to join Ryman League side Walton & Hersham, but came on as substitute in Banbury’s 3-1 defeat at Hednesford.

He first came to Spencer Stadium in November 2008 from Cirencester Town.

Jeffrey said: “He’s a character and we need those sorts of players to help us through the position we are in.

“He thought the grass was greener on the other side, but he found it wasn’t and says he regretted going there.

“I’m not sure if he will start against Weymouth because although Nathan has kept himself fit, he lacks match fitness because he hasn’t played in a while.

“So we are trying to get him match-fit as soon as we can.”

Jeffrey says it is vital his side get something from the Weymouth game.

He added: “It’s a massive – it’s our biggest game of our season.

“They are below us in the table and we have to prepare properly.”

Banbury’s on-loan Oxford United defender Henry Owen has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a knee problem.

Meanwhile, striker Jason Taylor has been released.
