Oxford City Stars bounced back from a 9-3 defeat at home to Invicta Dynamos to win 6-3 at Streatham Redskins in their South Division 1 double-header.

The latter result sees Stars leapfrog Streatham into sixth place to boost their hopes of finishing in the play-off places.

Oxford led 3-0 at the end of the first period against Invicta only for last year’s league champions to hit back for victory.

Gareth Endicott, Stars’ man-of-the-match Josh Oliver and player-coach and ex-Invicta player Ken Forshee were on target to give Stars a surprise advantage.

But with Oxford’s Andy Cox sitting in the penalty box, Dynamos pulled one back when England international Liam Chong fired the puck past Jamie Thompson, His strike inspired the visitors, and Daniel Fudger, Andy Smith, with a double, and Chong again made it 5-3 by the end of the period.

The momentum was definitely with Invicta, and it was further boosted when Canadian Daniel Borges shot home 13 seconds into the final period.

Smith then completed his hat-trick, before Borges sco-red his second and Cory Watkins sealed Stars’ fate.

Oxford also started brightly at Streatham, but ended the first period a goal down to a Tomas Valko effort.

Stars kept up the pace in the second period only to fall further behind when Valko grabbed his second from a tight angle.

But Oxford’s persistence was rewarded when Endicott fired the puck into the net from close range, before Forshee equal-ised almost immediately.

However, Streatham regain-ed the lead following a goalmouth scramble early in the final period, with Joe Johnston being credited as the scorer.

Forshee equalised for a second time, and then Alan Green nursed the puck past the out-of-position netminder to put Stars in front.

Grant Bailey extended Oxford’s lead, and Yousif Abu Saada clinched victory with their sixth goal.
