England's RBS Six Nations squad have added star quality to Oxford’s rugby scene this week as they stay and train in the city.

Martin Johnson’s men have been put through their paces in the gym and on the pitches at St Edward’s School during a three-day camp ending today.

Johnson opted for Oxford as England prepare to host Scotland on March 13.

“It’s great that St Edward’s have made their first-rate facilities available to us,” said Johnson.

“As a squad it’s important that we have a change of scene from our normal base and Oxford and St Edward’s provide that.”

Andrew Trotman, warden at St Edward’s, said: “We have a long tradition of excellence in rugby and so are delighted to welcome the squad.

“We take great pride in giving our pupils access to the most inspirational sports coaches and players and the sessions this week will be a wonderful example of this.”

St Edward’s alumni include former England international James Forrester, while head of rugby Mark Hanslip is the England U16 A team coach.

Talking about the training camp, England No 8 Nick Easter said: “There is going to be a balance of a review of France and a preview of Scotland and how we can improve.

“What helps with this week is that the information can be drip-fed into you.

“If we met up next Monday after a week off, you would suddenly have a load of information bombarded on you and you probably wouldn’t be able to take it in.

“With these extra three days, everything should be ship shape.”

Full back Ben Foden added: “We know that it is going to make Scotland’s Six Nations campaign if they can beat us in our own back yard.

“First and foremost, we have got to do our homework and rest up this week.”
