VALE of White Horse Schools Under 14s stayed on course to lift the Vale Cup with a 6-2 win over Banbury & District at North Oxfordshire Academy, Banbury.

Matthew Taylor fired Vale into a second-minute lead, before George Reid doubled their tally.

Sam Barder, the smallest player on the field, then headed home James Wright’s cross to make it 3-0 at half-time.

Taylor’s cross floated into the top corner, and Reid added the fifth, before Barder’s spectacular overhead kick made it 6-0.

Banbury reduced the deficit when Vale keeper Eddie Cavanagh’s punch rebounded off defender Eima Meade into his own net, and Kieran Watkins grabbed their second. The win maintains Vale’s 100 per cent record with one league game left at home to Cheltenham.

l VALE of White Horse Under 11s slipped to a 4-1 defeat against Gloucester in the County League at Oxford Brookes Westminster Institute of Education.

Gloucester had a penalty saved by Tom Taylor, before they took the lead.

Jake Denton then levelled with a spot-kick awarded for handball, but Gloucester were back in front before half-time.

Vale’s fate was sealed as they conceded two more goals in the second half.

l Cheney (Oxford) are through to the ESFA Munich Trophies Under 12 Indoor 5-a-side Girls Schools’ Cup finals at the Derby Powerleague on Monday.

Representing Oxford City, they booked their place in the eight-team decider by winning the area final.

Now they will battle it out in a group of four against Alder (Tameside), South Hunsley (East Riding) and Warden Park (Mid Sussex), with the top two going into the semi-finals.

The other schools involved are Laurence Jackson (Redcar & Cleveland), Thomas Telford (Telford & Wrekin), Grange (Bristol & South Gloucs) and Queens (Watford & District).
