Oxford Hawks were knocked off the top of South League Premier 2 by Richmond – who fared better against their Ashford opponents!

While Hawks lost 4-2 away to Ashford (Kent), the only team to beat them before Christmas, Richmond hammered bottom club Ashford (Middlesex) 10-0 to go above the Oxford club on goal difference.

Hawks took the lead from a short corner converted by Dave Cresswell.

Yet the Kent side always looked dangerous going forward, and they were rewarded with two goals scored from goalmouth scrambles.

Cresswell then dived to pull back a ball for Ted Bennett to make it 2-2.

In the second half, Ashford went ahead at a short corner.

With five minutes to go, Sam Chilvers found himself in front of goal with only the keeper to beat. His shot came off the keeper’s kicker, looped up and bounced off the top of the bar.

Hawks took off a defender and put on an extra attacker, and in the last seconds, Ashford broke away for a fourth.

Banbury recorded an impressive 3-2 win away to high-flying London Wayfarers in Premier Division 1.

Richard Foreman scored the winner two minutes from time, pushing the ball into the net after both his initial shot and the first rebound from Adrian Simons were saved.

Craig Larner and George Brooker had earlier scored for Banbury, each time Wayfarers hitting back to level.

Dan Smyth scored twice to help fourth-placed Rover Oxford beat Wallingford 3-2 in the Regional division.

Ben White also scored for Rover, while Charlie Lester struck both Wallingford goals.

Hawks 2nd’s Regional match against Ramgarhia ended in controversy as Ramgarhia walked off eight minutes from time, contesting a goal awarded to Hawks, which they believe struck an attacking foot.

The score was 3-2 to Hawks 2nd when the game was abandoned. Hawks are waiting to hear if the result stands.

City of Oxford found the early start in London not to their liking as they lost 5-2 at OMT. Andy Small and Richard Harding got their goals.
