Oxford City’s hopes of escaping the drop from the Zamaretto Southern League Premier Division have suffered a blow after James Organ was ruled out for a month with a hamstring tear.

The former Didcot Town and Abingdon United defender pulled up during their 3-1 midweek defeat to Bashley.

“It’s a bit of a blow because he has done well for us,” said boss Mike Ford, as he prepared for Saturday's trip to seventh-placed Chippenham.

“He has come in and listened and has done what I have asked him to do.”

And with striker Lee Steele struggling with a hamstring pull, Ford will again turn to the young strikeforce of Kynan Isaac and Felipe Barcelos.

Ford added: “Kynan hadn’t even been in my squad.

“But he played against Bashley when James Faulkner pulled out and they worked really well together.”

Meanwhile, Ford has praised his side’s resilience ahead of the trip He said: “When we went 3-0 down, we kept on going and got a goal at the end, but we have to cut out the silly individual errors which are costing us.

“We need to get back to basics and cut out the frills.”

Banbury United boss Billy Jeffrey wants his front players to be more ruthless in the final third when they travel to play-off contenders Leamington.

Jeffrey’s side have dominated their last three games, but have only a point to show, from Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at title-chasers Cambridge.

Jeffrey, who gives a late fitness test to Jack Ashton (injured foot) said: “We’re creating chances, but when we get near to goal we are panicking when we need to show a bit more composure.

“I’ve no complaints with our general play. Leamington are up there, so it will be tough.”
