James Main, the vet involved in the affair which saw Lambourn trainer Nicky Henderson suspended for three months in 2009, has been struck off by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
Main, of Kingston Lisle, near Wantage, administered an injection of tranexamic acid (TA) to Moonlit Path, a mare owned by the Queen, at Huntingdon in 2009.
TA is a blood-clotting agent which is banned in racing. However, Main admitted injecting Moonlit Path on the morning of her racecourse bow.
The RCVS hearing found that Main should have known TA was banned and that he had dishonestly concealed the injection in his records.
Main said: “I am deeply shocked and disappointed. The prospect of not being able to earn a living as a vet is a matter of grave concern.
“I would like to stress that I sought to act only in the interests of Moonlit Path’s welfare as I do for all animals in my care.”
