Matthew Woodley scored direct from a corner as Vale of White Horse Under 15s overcame an injury crisis to beat North Dorset 1-0 in the Wright Cup quarter-final at Milton United.
Vale had a catalogue of injuries, including losing keeper Hayden Jones in the warm-up, prompting a hasty phone call to summon under 14 keeper Eddy Cavanagh from his Abingdon home, and hauling George Reid out of the crowd to play in borrowed boots.
However, with the wind at their backs, Vale dominated the second half, and clinched a semi-final spot away to Salisbury when Woodley’s corner deceived the keeper and crept inside the back post.
VALE of White Horse Under 11s ran out 4-0 winners over Jersey in a friendly at Oxford Brookes Westminster Institute of Education.
Callum Rowe and Kieran Kerby netted in the first half, with Elias Djaoui and Jack Buchanan on target after the break.
