Ben Whitaker, one of the best strikers in the Oxford Mail Boys League over the last six years, has signed forms for Aston Villa.

And the 13-year-old's family are moving from their home village of East Challow, near Wantage, to help his career prospects in professional football.

Whitaker has ben playing for Kennington Boys since he was a seven-years-old and last season was chosen as the league's best under 13 player.

A natural sportsman, he already stands 5ft 9ins tall and scored 35 goals for the team despite missing much of the season as he was training with Villa.

In fact, Ben is a Manchester United fan, but it's his dad Barry, a lifelong Villa supporter, who has been responsible for the move to Birmingham.

"I've managed to get a job up there, so we'll be moving to hopefully help Ben's prospects," he said.

Ben, a talented athlete, seems to be a step ahead of his father, whose football career was spent largely with Clanfield in the Hellenic League.

Barry added: "Although I shouldn't say it as his dad, Ben's something special.

"He has exceptional ability and I hope he does really well."
