Oxfordshire's Kristen Johnson fell at the final hurdle in his attempts to qualify for the British National Championships.

The Witney player was beaten in straight games in the final qualifying round by Cheshire’s Adam Murrills.

Johnson saw off Nic Birt, from Wales, 11-5, 11-1, 11-8 in the opening qualifying round in Manchester.

He then proved ultra-consisten against Cheshire’s Michael Potter in the second round, running out an 11-5, 11-5, 11-5 winner.

But he then found Murrills too good, going down 11-9, 16-14, 11-3.

County teammate Dominic Hamilton also failed to make it through, losing to Kent’s Steven London 11-5, 5-11, 12-10, 9-11, 11-7 in the second qualifying round.
