GROVE head coach Nathan Brooks says they are good enough to win promotion from Southern Counties North.

Brooks’s side lie third in the table, five points behind Aylesbury, who are in the play-off position.

And with the way the fixtures fall, Grove can seize the iniative in the next month.

“We have got some tough away games like Aylesbury, Milton Keynes and Wootton Bassett, but we are in with a chance,” said Brooks.

“I think we have got the team to do it, but we need to play better rugby.

“We are one of the best rugby playing sides in the league, if not the best.

“The sides on top have proved that they score points under pressure. We need to prove we can do that.”

Grove visit Oxford in the Oxfordshire Cup quarter-finals on Sunday, but their focus is on the league.

Brooks said: “We have beaten Aylesbury and Wootton Bassett at home and didn’t think they were that good. We are fairly sure we can beat them again.

“We didn’t play well at Swindon and shipped 50 points. If we play like that, we’ll get beaten again.

“We are one of the best sides in this league and now we need to show it.”

Meanwhile, Cambridge have elected Canadian international Matt Guinness-King as their new captain.
