OXFORD City’s under 17 girls won team bronze at the South of England Cross Country Championships.

Lauren Hawtin led the team home, crossing the line in 14th place, with Jade Walker (26th), Imogen Kempton (48th) and Rebecca Byren (59th) making up the scorers.

They finished behind City of Norwich and Bracknell.

With three of the girls in their first year at this age gruop, the future looks bright for next year’s championship.

Individually, Beth Hawtin was the best-placed City runner as she finished eighth in the under 15 girls’ race.

Elissa Clarke was 74th.

Freddie Sunderland, 11, ran superbly to finish 69th in the under 13 boys race, while the under 13 girls’ team finished ninth, led home by Storm Sunderland in 38th.
