Oxford University ran in four tries as they beat the Royal Navy 22-13 in an injury-shortened match at Iffley Road on Wednesday night.

Dark Blues wing Luke Fenwick suffered a broken leg in the seventh minute and half an hour later, he was wheeled off on a stretcher after the ambulance crew feared their vehicle might get stuck on the muddy pitch.

Navy scrum half Dave Pascoe kicked an early penalty, then play resumed with ‘halves’ of 20 and 30 minutes.

Ben Priddey was driven over for 8-0, but Oxford hit back with stylish tries from skipper Stan McKeen and Fenwick’s replacement Luke Jones.

A solo score from fly half Harry Guinness, converted by full back Charlie Marr, and Jones’s second made it 22-8.

But Navy centre Dale Sleeman had the final say with a try in the corner.
