Head coach Alec Smith says Bicester have a lot of regrouping to do before they can consider promotion back to Southern Counties North.

Smith’s men have won their last three matches in the BB&O Premier Division, having lost every league game in a disastrous 2009/10, but he is keeping very realistic about the ‘revival’.

“It is a two or three year project for us,” he said.

“We will probably have at least three seasons in this division. We are happy with that and so are our committee.

“I’m not worried where we finish in the league, apart from in the bottom three.

“I am very happy to have won five out of ten matches so far.

“I would like to get two wins out of the next four and see where that takes us.”

Smith added: “We are still not taking things from the training field into the match, but it is getting better.”

Meanwhile Matt Watts, whose Gosford All Blacks side lost to Bicester on Saturday, can see a bright future for the club, just three months after taking charge as head coach.

Watts said he was concentrating on basic skills and increasing numbers at training, but he has seen enough to be optimistic.

“I think there are enough quality players here for us to try and get promotion next season,” said Watts.

“I am now using my time to assess where we can get better.

“Pre-season will start in mid-June as we need to get fitter.

“We are not aggressive enough. We are too nice.”

Gosford hope to sign lock Lester Smart from Oxford Harlequins.

Watts added: If it clicks, we can beat anybody.

“We have got seven games left and I really expect us to win four of them.”
