Two tries from Jack Cousins helped Oxford defeat Broadmoor Staff 28-17 in their relegation battle.

Handling errors prevented Oxford scoring early tries, but Cousins grabbed his first from a darting break.

A driven line-out from 20 metres set up try No 2 as Richard Cook touched down with help from Josh Grant.

Dom Coe added a penalty and Cousins’s second try made it 18-0.

The second half began with a bang as Cook claimed the kick-off and Coe chipped through for Matt O’Connor to score.

A well-worked backs move created an overlap for Jon Derrick to bag try No 5.

Oxford eased off and saw Broadmoor rally with three tries and a conversion.

A depleted Grove lost 51-29 at new leaders Swindon, but remain in the promotion hunt.

Grove were without injured quartet Ben Nicholl, Guy Nicholl, Steve Dixey and Joe Bellinger, while prop Richard Keen has rejoined Brighton.

The hosts soon went 12-0 up before Grove captain Nick Sevier took centre Ashley Lane’s pass to score.

Swindon led 22-5 after 25 minutes, but a superb solo tries from hooker Jon North and wing Gareth Hudson gave Grove hope.

Despite having their fly half sin-binned for a high tackle on Grove centre Jamie Burns, Swindon scored a fourth try before the break.

It was 27-22 when scrum half Roger Sevier converted his brother Nick’s second try.

Replacement Ben Law managed a fifth try for Grove, converted by Roger Sevier, who was yellow-carded late on after Swindon ran away with the match.

Chipping Norton’s home match with Aylesbury was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
