Wantage Tn 5 (Claydon 28, 38, Keen 43, Jones 44, Cattell 60)

Witney Utd 0

Richard Hill’s reign as Witney United manager got off to a farcial start as he was only able to field nine players for the kick-off of the Bluefin Insurance Brokers Challenge Cup second-round tie at Wantage Town – who took full advantage to dish out a five-goal battering.

The former Oxford United midfielder, who was recently coach at Didcot Town, was able to add a tenth player midway through the first half.

To their credit, Witney’s nine men kept Wantage out until the 28th minute when keeper Paul Tassell failed to hold an inswinging corner, and Richie Claydon turned the loose ball home.

Claydon grabbed his second ten minutes later after being played in by Danny Keen, who then finished off a five-man move for No 3.

Gavin Jones then popped the ball past the advancing Tassell to make it 4-0 at the break, and Stuart Cattell headed in Wantage’s fifth goal on the hour to complete the rout and clinch a quarter-final place away to South Kilburn.

Carterton 1 (Bostock pen 75)

Abingdon Tn 3 (Howard 21, Janes 50, Gordon 90)

Abingdon Town eased into the last eight with a battling performance on a bumpy Kilkenny Lane pitch.

Jake Howard curled in a left-footed shot from the edge of the area to give Town a 21st-minute lead.

Mark Janes doubled their advantage five minutes into the second half when he latched on to a through ball, and headed into an empty net after Carterton keeper James Domm saved his first attempt.

Carterton pulled one back in the 75th minute with a David Bostock penalty awarded for a push by Dan Warne.

But substitute Sam Gordon volleyed in Jordan Reid’s cross in the last minute to clinch Town’s victory.
