Oxford City have been thrown out of the Oxfordshire Senior Cup for fielding an ineligible player in their 2-1 quarter-final win at Carterton last Tuesday.

City included new signing Neil Dunn from Clevedon.

But it later transpired that the midfielder had not been signed in time to be eligible to play in the competition.

Dunn was registered with the Zamaretto Southern League on Friday, January 21, and he made his debut in the 2-0 home defeat by Chesham the following day.

But under Oxfordshire Football Association rules, players must be signed seven days in advance.

City secretary John Shepperd said: “It was a genuine error. We are disappointed, but we accept what action the OFA have taken.”

Carterton now go forward to the last four.
