Abingdon Utd 3 (Mills 30, 47, Lewis 52)

John Mills’s brace set Abingdon United on the way to an emphatic victory at lowly Wimborne Town in Division 1 South & West.

Abingdon had an early let off when Gareth Barnes headed a great chance wide from three yards, and it was only a brilliant tackle by Matty Horsell which denied Kev James as he raced through.

However, the visitors broke the deadlock on the half hour.

An attack appeared to have faltered, but Paul Orgad stretched to stab the ball away from a defender into the path of Mills, who sprinted forward to shoot into the bottom corner.

There was a lucky escape then for Abingdon when James Stokoe’s low drive hit the base of a post before running across the goal and being fired back in, only to be hooked away, and then hitting keeper Jon Beames on the head and going out for a corner.

Graham Lewis sidefooted a great chance wide for Abingdon, before James’s cracking drive clipped the bar after Beames got fingertips to it.

Mills grabbed his second in the 47th minute, stabbing the ball home after Luke Carnell’s header hit the bar.

And Abingdon wrapped up victory five minutes later.

Mills overran the ball as he tried to turn and Lewis stepped in to shoot past Jakub Malara.

Beames then blocked a shot from Stokoe.

Abingdon went on to hit the Wimborne woodwork, while Stokoe missed from six yards with the goal at his mercy.
