Didcot Town chairman John Bailey says they are close to making a decision on their new manager.

But he said following talks with the prospective new boss last night, that the club still cannot make an announcement on who that is likely to be.

Bailey confirmed that they are on the verge of appointing the new manager, but that caretaker boss Howard Cowley is likely to take charge of team affairs for today’s Zamaretto Southern League Premier Division trip to Evesham United.

While declining to name the likely new manager, Bailey said he remained hopeful that someone would be in place in the very near future.

He said last night: “We’ve been talking for a while, but he needs to think about things and about what we’ve offered.

“As it stands at the moment, Howard will be going with the team to Evesham, but hopefully a decision will be reached soon.”

  • WITNEY United have appointed former Oxford United midfielder Richard Hill as their new manager.

Hill has had spells as manager of Stevenage Borough and also assistant manager at QPR and Tranmere Rovers among others.

He quit as coach of Didcot Town when Stuart Peace stood down last weekend.

Hill will have a first chance to see his new team in action for today’s Bluefin Insurance Brokers Cup clash at Wantage Town.

Duncan Colwell, who took charge in a caretaker role after Darren Teggart’s resignation, will remain at the club as Hill’s assistant.
