Wallingford pushed ever-improving Reading hard in a 16-5 defeat at the Hithercroft.
But a third-straight loss in 2011 leaves them just two points above the relegation zone, having appeared to pull clear by Christmas.
Blindside flanker Jonathan Cranton opened the scoring for Reading with a 20th-minute try, converted by fly half Robert Sweeney, who also added a penalty.
Just after the break, loose-head prop Kris Blaszko reduced the arrears with his second try in two matches.
Wallingford had blindside flanker Marcus Wiltshire sin-binned after 64 minutes.
Reading took advantage, with Sweeney slotting two penalties, which denied Wallingford a losing bonus point.
Former leaders Witney suffered a fourth straight defeat, this time going down 21-6 at Swanage & Wareham.
Swanage cruised into a 15-0 lead, thanks to tries from wing Charlie Rowberry, hooker Robert Elford and prop Oliver Andrews.
Returning fly half Henry Lamb kicked two penalties to give Witney hope.
But a brace of penalties from fly half Phil Graves made the game safe for Swanage.
