BB&O round-up

Eight-try Alchester romped to a 51-8 victory at Drifters to maintain the pressure on Premier Division leaders Slough.

No 8 Joe McAneaney, prop Sean Cooke and flanker Joe Fawcett all bagged doubles in a convincing win.

McAneaney struck first after a left-wing break, with Tom Barnes converting.

Drifters hit back with a close-range try on 12 minutes.

Cooke grounded the ball from a trademark forward drive, then barged over from 20 metres.

Drifters replied with a penalty, but Barnes converted Fawcett’s first for 24-8.

Alchester ran away with it in the final 30 minutes, with Fawcett, McAneaney, centre Matt Flegg and replacement Pat Coogan crossing the line.

Barnes kicked a penalty and a conversion, with Tom Miles adding the other two points.

Gosford All Blacks battled hard in a 40-13 defeat at Slough.

Centre Harry Sutton’s super try gave Gosford a 5-0 lead and scrum half Tim Ellis later made it 10-8 with a penalty.

Replacement flanker Dan Hughes forced his way over in the second half, which reduced the arrears to 30-13.

Lock Matt Prince (2), fly half James O’Reilly (2), prop Terry Watkins, hooker James Fisher and scrum half Yoan Noquier scored Slough’s tries, with O’Reilly kicking five points.

A John Madley try and a Paul Costello penalty were in vain as Didcot lost 15-8 to Faringdon in BB&O Division 2 South.
