Macclesfield Town midfielder Richard Butcher has died at the age of 29.

It’s only two weeks since Butcher played against Oxford United in Macclesfield’s 2-1 defeat at the Kassam Stadium.

Macclesfield have not disclosed the cause, but Butcher died at his home in Manchester on Sunday night.

The ex-Kettering, Oldham, Peterborough, Notts County and Lincoln City man’s death comes less than a year since the loss of boss Keith Alexander.

Macc chairman Mike Rance said: “Richard was an exemplary professional and a thoroughly likeable young man, a total role model for young professionals.”

ALDERSHOT Town have confirmed manager Kevin Dillon and assistant Gary Owers have left the club by mutual agreement.

It comes just two days after the Shots’ 2-1 home defeat by Oxford United.

FORMER Oxford United midfielder Dave Penney is Bristol Rovers new manager.
