HARRY Worley says all the Oxford United players need to get Saturday’s showing agai-nst Southend out of their system as they prepare to take on Torquay at Plainmoor today.

And if the U's can keep a rare clean sheet, he believes they will win the game.

United have not recorded a shut-out for 16 games, dating back to September 11.

But it wasn’t just defensively that Oxford struggled on Saturday, as they never really got their act together going forward.

“It’s an old cliche really, but it was one of those days,” centre half Worley said.

“I don’t think that we had any shots on target and when you don’t, you’re not going to win the game.

“Obviously it’s going to be pretty difficult when we lose two goals in the first half to come back.

“We felt we could still get something out of the game, but hat didn't materialise.”

Southend’s second goal, an intended cross from right back Sean Clohessy which sailed over keeper Ryan Clarke and into the net off a post, was pure fluke and summed up Oxford’s miserable afternoon.

“Those things do happen,” Worley said. “Unfortunately, it happened to us.

“We’ve got to bounce back. Everyone’s got to get this game out of our system.

“We’ve got to completely write this game off, it was a one-off, and move on to Torquay.

“What we’re looking for is three points and a good performance.”

Fit-again Jake Wright, who came on for the second half on Saturday, may well take over from the start this time.

“It’s nice to see Jake back,” he added.

“He’s been unlucky with injuries and suspensions.

“And hopefully we can get a partnership back and some clean sheets, we’ve not had any for a while now.

“There’s been changes in the side through injuries and things.

“But if we can get a clean sheet on Monday, I’m sure we’ll win the game.”

New signing Paul Mc-Laren, who has joined until the end of the season from Tranmere, is hoping to be involved at Plainmoor.

“I’m looking to get into the side,” said the experienced defensive midfielder.

“But there are some good players here and I’m under no illusions that I’ve got to work hard to do that.”

McLaren was ineligible to play on Saturday because of complicated January transfer and 24-hour regulations.

“I didn’t know until about two days before when the secretary phoned me and said I couldn’t play or be involved.

“So I’ve had to sit this one out and hopefully will be involved in some capacity on Monday.”
