The last time Shaun Trafford appeared in these pages, he had just returned from a carping trip to France and bagged a 59.9.0 mirror.

And he is here again this week with a cracking 21.12.0 pike caught from a Buckinghamshire stillwater.

Kidlington-based Shaun, who works at J & K Tackle in Bicester, used a popped up smelt as bait.

Over the last few weeks we have featured some good pike and if they have whetted your appetite, you could do worse than join the Oxon & North Wiltshire branch of the Pike Anglers Club of Great Britain.

They are holding a fish-in at Linear Fisheries’ Brasenose 1 pit at Stanton Harcourt on January 16. Anglers are meeting at 7.30am and it will cost £15 for two rods.

l KEEN pike anglers may be interested to know that Abingdon specimen hunter and author Paul Gustafson is offering copies of his ‘How to Catch Bigger Pike’ books at a reduced price.

The ten limited editions are bound in green leather, coupled with gold leaf lettering and are all numbered and signed by the author.

Legendary pike author Fred Buller provided the foreword and there are contributions from Bob Church and Gord Burton.

A SESSION on Linear’s Manor Farm lake produced three big carp for Kevin Wilson from Leicestershire, including the fish known as ‘Spike’ weighed at 42.8.0.

He fed a gallon maggots and then placed a 12mm boilie tipped with three maggots on top.
