Oxford United are determined to build on their two wins on the trot if their game at Lincoln tomorrow goes ahead.

The League Two match is in the balance because of this week’s freeze, which has hit the Sincil Bank pitch particularly badly.

The U’s should know this afternoon whether the match will be on.

And one person especially hoping it does get the green light, is their 6ft 7in centre half Ben Futcher.

The U’s loan signing from Bury was at Lincoln from 2002-2005, playing 140 times for the Red Imps.

Manager Chris Wilder is hoping his team can show the same character as in their successive triumphs against Chesterfield and Barnet.

“We’ll be the same as everybody else – thinking that any team that sticks a run together, and is consistent, can climb the table.

“We’ve shown in the past two weeks what two wins does for you.

“And we’ve also shown what three or four losses does.

“There are slides, but we always think we’ve got the ability to go and win games in this league, and we’ve got to make sure we build on the two wins and drive ourselves forwards to see if we can make it three.”

One of Lincoln’s biggest problems this season has been set pieces. They have conceded a lot of goals from them, partly because they don’t have an imposing, old-fashioned-style centre half who dominates in the air.

But they have two wingers who on their day can cause real problems.

Mustapha Carayol tends to start on the right, and Albert Jarrett on the left, but both are happy switching to the other flank.

Yet United have Steve Maclean.

“I thought he was very unfortunate not to score on Saturday,” Wildersaid. “The goals we’ve scored, he’s had a hand in, at Chesterfield, and against Barnet.

“He’s a clever player.”
