Oxford United are facing two big challenges this weekend – to beat the weather, and also beat Barnet.

But they have taken extra measures to get the npower League Two game at the Kassam Stadium on against the Bees.

And Chris Wilder’s team are hoping to build on their surprise 2-`1 win at Chesterfield last week with a welcome home victory to warm up their supporters.

“Nobody gave us the chance that night, but we went there and won, and we hope the confidence we gained from that we can bring back home,” said United’s manager.

He added: “There’s no pressure on Barnet, it’ll all be chucked on us.

“It’ll be a tight game and we need to be clinical. Chances were created at and taken at Chesterfield. We’ve created as many as that before in games, but not put them away.

“They had a deflected shot for their goal and apart from that we restricted them to very few.

“It’s what happens in both boxes that counts, and at Chesterfield we were good in that respect.”

Barnet are in 23rd place, without an away win since March.

But United know records like that are there to be broken, as Gillingham showed in the last home game.

That 1-0 success was their first away win for 18 months.

There are three players facing their old club tomorrow.

U’s right back Damian Batt and Simon Clist were both at Underhill from 2004 to 2006.

Batt made 43 league and cup appearances for the Bees in that time, and Clist over 70.

And the Barnet goalkeeper is Jake Cole.

Remember him? Cole was at Oxford at the start of the 2008-9 season, on loan from QPR, and took over when Ben Hinchliffe had a less than impressive debut in a 3-0 defeat at Barrow.

Cole played in five matches under then manager Darren Patterson, including a 6-3 win over Eastbourne Borough and a televised match at Wrexham in which, although it ended in a 2-0 defeat, he saved a penalty.

The 6ft 2in keeper joined Barnet later that season, and has been there ever since, making over 60 appearances.

He was ever-present last season and was the unanimous choice as the Bees’ player of the year.

This season began poorly for Barnet, with just one win from the first ten games, and some heavy defeats, one of them 7-0 at Crewe.

But home wins over Cheltenham, Hereford, Macclesfield and North-ampton have just about managed to keep their head above the water.

And they showed what they are capable of by pushing Charlton hard in the FA Cup, before losing 1-0.

“I watched them at Charlton and they were very unlucky not to win,” Wilder said.
