The cold snap looks to have put paid to Oxford University’s hopes of facing Northampton Saints in a final pre-Varsity Match fixture.
The Dark Blues were due to host Northampton at Iffley Road last night, but the match was called off with the pitch frozen.
Last night both clubs were still understood to be investigating the possiblity of playing the match at Franklins Gardens tonight.
However, with no sign of a let-up in the Arctic conditions this was looking an increasingly remote possibility.
Nick Haydon, the Dark Blues’ captain, names his Varsity Match side at Twickenham at 1pm on Thursday. The big match is on Thursday week.
