Oxford City 0

Chippenham Tn 0

Oxford City had to settle for a point in a goalless draw at a freezing Court Place Farm in Saturday’s Premier Division clash.

The result was possibly a fair reflection, although City created more than enough chances to have earned all three points.

Early on, Liam Malone’s through ball set Lee Steele through for a shot on goal, forcing Chippenham keeper Giancarlo Bohry into a sharp save with his legs.

At the other end, the visitors’ first glimpse of goal came as an awkwardly bouncing ball on a hard surface let in Ashley Edenborough, but City goalkeeper Jakub Jesionkowski was quickly off his line to thwart the Chippenham man.

For much of the first half, missed passes and tight marking produced a sterile affair, although Ashley Kington might have broken the deadlock when he was first to a half-clearance, only for his 30-yard lob to drop just wide of a post.

City were much improved in the second half as they took the game to their visitors.

Substitite Mark Janes twice outpaced the Chippenham defence, only to put both efforts wide of the target.

Relentless late pressure produced five corners in quick succession, but, apart from a headed near-miss from debutant Scott Fuller, Bhory and his defence dealt with the pressure.

Felipe Barcelos replaced Mark Pritchard for the last ten minutes, and he came very close to snatcing victory when his thunderous shot was palmed to safety by Bhory.

The visitors did scramble the ball over the line as the game entered stoppage time, but an offside flag curtailed Chippenham’s celebrations.
