CITY of Oxford’s Chris Currie took the gold medal, clocking 5.54.90 secs, in the boys 400m freestyle at the nationwide short course championships, where over 200 potential paralympic swimmers competed at Sheffield.

Currie, 15, who also trains at Reading Cygnets, claimed three personal bests in all.

They came in the 50m backstroke, in a time of 37.21, 100m freestyle (1.11.41) and 50m freestyle (31.07) in the intellectual S14 classification races.

Clubmate Rosie Bancroft,15, gained a silver and personal best in the 100m freestyle in a time of 1.11.09 and touched third with a PB in the 50m butterfly (37.00) and 400m freestyle in the S10 functionality races.
