Kennington duo Keith Sheard and son Steven lifted the world pairs in Jersey, writes PETE EWINS.

After beating Paul Newton and Dave Jones 7,920-4,380 in the quarter-finals, they racked up an impressive 21,930 points to defeat Harry Barbiet and Alan LeBlond and book their place in the final.

They then took the title with a 18,410-3,550 win over Mark Brewster and Curt Driver.

Steven Sheard capped a great weekend by winning the plate competition, scoring a 16,000 break against Jersey’s James Jeanne in the final.

Meanwhile, Bob Pincombe and Keith Gardner held on for a narrow victory over Alan Lacey and Bob Allsworth in the Johnsons Buildbase Oxford League Pairs competition.

Representing Gladiators Club, the duo were forced to watch on as the Vikings pair needed 11,320 in the decider – but fell 640 short.

Gardner’s break of 8,000 secured the opening leg, but Lacy and Allsworth hit back to make it 1-1.

A 6130-2620 victory in the third leg from Pincombe and Gardner saw Vikings chasing a tricky target, but although they got close, it wasn’t enough.

In the first round of the men’s individual event, Keith Sheard beat Adam Thorn 9,050-3,520 and Phil Clark defeated Alan Lacey 4,300-3,780.
