North Oxford's Jack Rooney became the first player in recent memory to win all three rubbers on his County Week debut.

Brought in for the first time against South of Scotland at Southsea yesterday, and paired with Jon Maskens, the duo won two testing three-setters on their way to a clean sweep.

Oxfordshire won 9-0 and after their 8-1 success against Cumbria on the opening day are now well placed in Group 8. Today they face North Wales, who have yet to drop a rubber.

Also in impressive form for Oxon is Robin Ashby, who has now won six out of six in his first year at the event.

Oxfordshire's women suffered their second successive 6-3 defeat in Group Two at Worthing, after getting off to a terrible start against Hertfordshire.

They were 3-0 down after the first round and never fully recovered.

But it could have been different.

Liz Jelfs and Imogen Wyatt were unlucky to lose a very tight third-set tie-break against the unbeaten Herts pair of Claire Ricketts and Amanda Elliott.

And Lucy Collinson and Cressida Henderson only lost 6-4 in the third to Allisa Ayling and Mandy Bishop after a strongly disputed line call at a crucial point when they had the edge at 5-5 in the second set.
