Denmark proved worthy World Cup champions, but oh dear, they ruffled a few feathers on their way to victory.

They protested vehemently when decisions went against them, and gave race director and fellow Dane Ole Olsen a right mouthful.

Where now are the likes of Hans Nielsen, Erik Gundersen and Jan O Pedersen, real gentlemen.

While they may have had a word to the referee.

They would have avoided the outbursts we saw from Hans Andersen who again let himself down badly by using the F-word live on television, and Nicki Pedersen really letting rip at Olsen something he will have to explain to to a FIM jury.

Most fans like a bit of rough and tumble at speedway, but this was way over the top.

The event itself was a brilliant effort. We saw speedway of the highest quality, especially in the opening round in Poland, easily the best meeting I have witnessed in over 30 years.

We tend to think Elite League speedway is top notch, but this was on a different planet with a nation's pride at stake.

Great Britain skipper Scott Nicholls didn't pull back when he accused the Danes of crossing the line between hard and dirty riding at Reading.

Nicholls said: "Denmark rode hard and well and were the best team on the night.

"Occasionally they do ride a bit over the hard line and it becomes dirty.

"That's when there's aggravation."
