Lukas Dryml, brother of badly injured Oxford Cheetahs' ace Ales Dryml, when asked if the doctors could explain his sibling's remarkable recovery, poignantly replied: "No, not really."

He then turned his eyes skywards and added: "but there's one who does."

It was fantastic news that Ales had regained consciousness and he has astounded those treating him at the Radcliffe Infirmary with his progress after regaining consciousness early last week.

And in typical speedway rider fashion, he's eager to leave hospital and go home as soon as he can!

Many tears of despair were shed by those close to the situation when we learned that doctors had told brother Lukas and father Ales Snr that things were looking very bleak.' But those tears of despair turned to tears of joy in less than 48 hours as Ales regained consciousness and, as we've said above, is now well on the road to making a full recovery.

Oxford promoter Aaron Lanney says his feelings for the sport went full circle as Ales Dryml regained consciousness after his life-threatening crash.

Lanney said: "I was ready to pack speedway in, that's how I felt about it. I felt terrible and never wanted to see another speedway race in my life when I was told he may not make it.

"But Ales has proved once again what a fighter he is and we are all overjoyed by this news."
