A late goal by Ross Oulton ended Abingdon United’s fight-back and gave Banbury United a 3-2 away win in the first round of the Red Insure Cup on Tuesday.
Two headers from corners gave Banbury a good platform inside 17 minutes. Scott Cross and Adam Learoyd were the marksmen.
Abingdon pulled one back on the stroke of half-time when Billy Beechers netted from Chris Harper’s whipped cross.
And the home side were level on the hour through a Steve Davis volley.
Banbury booked their place in the second round five minutes from time when Oulton ran through to score with a shot in-off the woodwork.
A Matty Taylor hat-trick was not enough to see North Leigh through at Cirencester Town as they went down 6-4 after extra time.
His opener gave them an interval lead, and he soon made it 2-0.
Cirencester pulled it back to 2-2 with goals from Marcus Palmer and Callum Henry in the first ten minutes of the second half.
Stuart Hole’s penalty restored North Leigh’s lead before Sean Wood made it 3-3, also from the spot, in the 63rd minute.
Taylor’s third looked to have won it for North Leigh, only for Paul Banks to level at 4-4 in injury time for Cirencester.
Goals from former Didcot Town player James Mortimer-Jones and Connor Teague in the second period of extra time put the hosts through.
Oxford City also went to extra time before winning 2-1 at home to a stubborn Thatcham side.
Mark Janes broke clear and crossed for Aaron Woodley to score from close range and put City in front on 25 minutes.
Woodley also saw a header bounce off the bar before the visitors equalised on the stroke of half-time through James Clark’s header.
After a second-half blank, Andy Ballard put City through in extra time when he powered home Ashley Kingston’s corner.
Didcot Town gave an improved display, but still lost 2-1 at home to Chippenham.
The visitors took the lead via Shaun Benison, but Didcot quickly levelled with a Mark Draycott penalty after Jason Costello had been fouled.
The winner came five minutes before the break when Didcot keeper Sam Worrell allowed Ashley Edinburgh’s shot to cross the line.
