Former president Alec Dent’s hopes of making Oxford University’s crew for the 2011 Xchanging Boat Race are still alive after he was named in the Dark Blues’ 27-man squad. The 21-year-old, from Bampton, resigned as president for 2010-11 when a back injury made it uncertain whether he would be able to feature in any boat this season.
He is joined in the squad by former Abingdon School pupil George Whittaker and cox Zoe De Toledo, who are both from Henley.
Cambridge’s squad includes Felix Wood, a former Abingdon School pupil from Oxford.
Oxford and Cambridge hold their trial eights races on December 8, with the 157th Boat Race on March 26.
