Uxbridge 4 (Moores 35, 45, Cicero 50, 69)

Abingdon Utd 1 (Carnell 48)

A mad minute at the end of the first half, which saw Abingdon United concede a second goal and have two men sent off, consigned Richard Bourne’s side to defeat.

Trailing 1-0 just before half-time, Abingdon stood static appealing for offside.

Uxbridge’s Chris Moores, in an offside position, remained still until Craig Tomkins raced away with the ball.

As he pulled it back out of the reach of keeper Jon Beames, Moores was able to tap in for his second goal, following his 35th-minute opener.

From the restart, a loose ball was seized upon by the hosts and Abingdon’s Tom Franklin made a rash challenge which referee John Farries decided was a red card.

As the players left the field at half-time, the referee heard a derogatory comment aimed at him and decided it came from Tom Melledew – and sent him off as well.

Abingdon were now down to nine men, but they got somejoyon 48 minutes as a Jon Gar-dner free-kick was met again by Luke Carnell, who directed his header over the keeper.

However, two goals by Paulo Cicero ended their hopes.
