Oxford United boss Chris Wilder says he sees no reason to change things around for today’s npower League Two match at Macclesfield.

That’s not to say he won’t, but he feels the players have been performing consistently well over the season as a whole.

And last week’s 1-0 setback at home to Aldershot, a third home defeat this season, was not a signal that he needs to make any sweeping changes.

“Are individual players making the same mistakes week in, week out? No. Are we competing? Yes,” he answered.

“Their attitude and desire is good, the play’s good, we’re ticking all those boxes. We’re not losing three or four on the bounce.

“They’re a young team evolving.

“We haven’t got any divine right to be top of the league. No-one said that at the start of the season.

“We were disappointed last Saturday, but I think we’ve done well enough in our performances, and I think we’re points light.

“Last Saturday, Sunday and Monday, we were really disappointed because we want to make things happen now.

“But we have to take a little bit of a step back. We’re not the finished article, I keep saying this.

“We’re building something and sometimes you have to take a step back, and sometimes things happen like last Saturday where the boy scores an unbelievable goal, and we don’t do the correct things at the right time.

“But it was a difficult situation to everybody.

“We have to have a little bit of patience.

“If players keep making the same mistakes then I might have to whizz it around, but we were talking a week ago about beating the league leaders.

“As long as we keep learning, and keep improving, as I think we will do, and they want to do the right things, then I’m happy.”

United are still undefeated on their travels this season.

Midfielder Simon Heslop said: “There’s no reason why we can’t go to Macclesfield with confidence, and keep our unbeaten run going away.

“We played well in the first half last week, but when we went 1-0 down we lacked a few ideas really and we could have created a few more chances, but hopefully we can bounce back this weekend.”

Macclesfield have midfielder Izak Reid available again, but striker Emile Sinclair is out with a hamstring injury.

And ex-Oxford United striker Ricky Sappleton, who scored seven goals in 18 starts for the Silkmen last season, but has been troubled by injury this year, will probably be on the bench at best.
