Charlie Longsdon was basking in the glow of one of his best days on a racecourse after landing a 154-1 across-the-card treble.

The 34-year-old handler sent out Songe (11-4) and Rey Nacarado (100-30) from his Hull Farm Stables, near Chipping Norton, to win at Huntingdon on Sunday, while Young Albert (17-2) scored at Uttoxeter.

Longsdon said: “Personally, it would have to rank near the top of my list of best days on the racecourse, and it is certainly not often that all the horses run so well.”

Songe set the ball rolling by opening his account over fences at the seventh attempt, bounding clear under Richard Johnson to beat Kirkhammerton by an easy 12 lengths in a handicap chase over an extended two and a half miles.

Rey Nacarado made it a Huntingdon double for Longsdon with a runaway 16-length victory in a handicap hurdle over three miles and two furlongs in the hands of new conditional jockey Peter Carberry.

Sandwiched in between the trainer’s two Huntingdon winners, Young Albert ploughed through the Uttoxeter mud to beat Feel The Force by six lengths in a handicap hurdle over an extended two miles and six furlongs under Andrew Tinkler.

Longsdon added: “Young Albert was definitely our most pleasing winner of the day, as he would have hated the heavy going, and was carrying top weight.”
