Australia, with Oxford Cheetahs skipper Todd Wiltshire back in the fold, won a fantastic victory on the final heat of the opening round of the World Team Cup in Rybnic, Poland last night.

In heat 21, Wiltshire had a lucky escape when he was catapulted over the handlebars into the air fence with the bike landing on his chest. He was uninjured.

He played his part to the full with Great Britain and Poland taking the Aussies all the way before Jason Crump won the last heat to go through the meeting unbeaten.

Wiltshire won two races and finished second, but also had an engine failure and that fall.

The meeting looked between the unfancied GB side and Austraila until Poland played their joker late on and almost pulled off an astonishing victory.

Australia go through to Saturday's final at Reading, while Poland and Great Britain face a race-off with tomorrow's third and fourth teams in the Swedish round.
