Almondsbury Tn 1 (Brown 88) North Leigh 0

NORTH Leigh’s miserable start to the Southern League Division 1 South & West season continued as they slumped to their third successive defeat with a late goal giving Almondsbury Town victory.

With time running out, the referee, who had made some curious decisions, awarded a hotly-disputed free-kick to the home side.

North Leigh were unable to clear it, and substitute Marvin Brown fired through a crowd of players into the far corner, giving keeper Adam Lonsdale no chance.

However, it was a spirited performance from North Leigh, who had the chances to win the game.

North Leigh opened brightly and Aaron Posey had a shot well saved by keeper Stewart Jones.

Their best chance in the first half fell to Ben Reardon, whose low shot rebounded off the far post and into Jones’s grateful arms.

Almondsbury's best spell came after the break, but North Leigh were never seriously troubled.

And it was the visitors who looked thre more likely to break the deadlock with Reardon twice through on the keeper only to be denied on both occasions.

Stuart Hole had a shot hacked off the line by a Almondsbury defender, before the home side grabbed that late winner.
