Wantage marksman Dan Rivers scooped an unprecedented haul of 11 gold medals from 11 events in four days of competition at Bisley.

Britain’s junior rifle captain was in devastating form in the junior international meeting, and the British Championships last week.

Newly returned from his record exploits in the junior world championships, and competing against opposition from eight other nations, Rivers set shooting's headquarters alight.

Nine of the medals came in the junior internationals.

There were team and individual golds in air rifle and three-position air rifle at ten metres and prone smallbore rifle, and three-position smallbore at 50 metres, plus a ninth gold in the smallbore prone Grand Prix, also at 50 metres.

The final two golds came in the British three-position air rifle championships, when he retained both his British Open and British national titles.

The previous week, Rivers set a British record at the World Junior Championships.

In the eliminator for the 50-metre prone event, he finished as leading qualifier, with a score of 598 out 600, two points above the previous record.

But in the final, too many of his shots just slipped by the bullseye, for a score of 589 and a disappointing 40th place in the final rankings.
