Lily Again gave Wantage owner-breeders Robert and Caroline Instone their first Listed race success when making all the running to land the Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Star Stakes at Sandown.

The daughter of American Post, trained by Paul Cole at Whatcombe, near Wantage, was quickest out of the stalls and never saw another rival as Jamie Spencer stoked her up to hold off Cochabamba by a length.

Lily Again could be on her travels now with the Group 2 Keeneland Debutante Stakes at the Curragh on August 8 a possible target.

Cole completed an across-the-card double when Lady Of Gar-moran landed a mile handicap at Bath under Tadgh O’Shea ten minutes later.

And the Whatcombe trainer continued his winning run the next day when Baltimore Clipper and Tom Eaves took a mile and a half handicap at Thirsk.

West Ilsley trainer Mick Channon also has a smart juvenile filly in his care in Soraaya, who captured the Princess Margaret Abu Dhabi Stakes at Ascot.

Her half-length victory over Mar-got Did under Ryan Moore in the Group 3 contest sparked quotes from the bookmakers of 25-1 for next year’s 1,000 Guineas.

But that only drew a certain amount of scorn from the trainer, who said: “What do they know? It’s a crazy price at this moment in time.”

Soraaya’s success came as a prelude to Youmzain finishing third for Channon behind runaway winner Harbinger in the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

“I was very impressed with the winner,” said the West Ilsley trainer. “We will be looking at the Arc, and it is unlikely we will run before.”

At the other end of the scale, Channon was on the mark with Grand Zafeen, who landed an apprentice handicap at Folkestone in the hands of Amy Scott.

Colloquial has been a grand servant for Wantage trainer Henry Candy, and he followed up his Sandown success with a game win in the John Guest Brown Jack Stakes at Ascot.

Candy continued his winning run the following day with an across-the-card double courtesy of Rolling Hills at Lingfield and The Confessor at Salisbury.

East Ilsley trainer Hughie Mor-rison also saddled two winners on the same day when Fantasy Fry scored at Bath before Regal Approval justified odds-on fav-ouritism at Epsom.

And Valencha added to his tally with a short-head success in a Salisbury maiden.

Over the jumps, Radetsky March called the tune for Mark Bradstock’s Letcombe Bassett stables, near Wantage, in a handicap chase at Bangor-On-Dee.

And What’s Up Doc added to his wins on the Flat and over hurdles for Aston Rowant trainer Lawney Hill with an easy victory in a novices’ chase at Southwell.
